International Student
Association

Our ISA had a great semester. Have a look at all the fun in Spring 2007: https://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~amalhotr/ISA_Power.html

The International Student Association (ISA) is a student led club that plans and coordinates a variety of programs to enhance international understanding and friendship. It also represents the interests of international students in the university community. Click here to meet our current ISA leaders.

Getting involved in the ISA is a great way to enrich your experience at SDSU. By becoming actively involved in the ISA you can work closely with students from all over the world while developing skills in organizational leadership, intercultural communication, and problem-solving. Meetings usually take place on Friday afternoons after the Coffee Hour. Some of the regular ongoing activities already planned for this year include :

International Coffee Hours

This is a popular traditional gathering of students and faculty held every Friday at the Center featuring a free snack lunch and entertainment. Students who like to cook prepare the food based on their culinary talents - recent highlights have included Argentine polenta, Yemenese soup, Indian curry, Mexican tamales, Chinese noodles, Spanish gazpacho and Vietnamese spring rolls. Plan your schedule so you can join us each Friday at noon for fun, food and friendships.

On the first Thursday of each month the ISA hosts the viewing of a foreign film that has won some kind of international award. Come to the Center and travel the world on film as you enjoy free popcorn and the company of good friends.

Social Activities, Excursions, Community Service and Fundraising

The ISA organizes activities to help students get to know each other and their community better! Every semester, we throw a Welcome Party and an End-of-Semester Ceremony/BBQ. We visit the beautiful mountains of Idyllwild and Julian in the Fall for our ISA Annual retreat and hike among the desert flowers of Anza Borrego in the Spring. We have also visited Hollywood to see a taping of the Tonight Show, gone ice skating, visited Disneyland and more! We believe it's important for international students to get to know and give back to the community so we participate in community service events every year. Recent activities have included a book drive for children in Afghanistan and a clothes drive for an orphanage in Tijuana. Finally, we raise funds and promote the ISA with our Peace Village t-shirts and Coffee Hour Cookbooks. We even have a few car washes every semester! All proceeds go to pay for all our great activities.

Annual International Peace Village Celebration

The Peace Village is the annual Fall celebration of international cultures. This is an opportunity for international students to share their traditions with the SDSU and San Diego community. The event attracts over 1000 participants including school children and community leaders. It features cultural displays, music, song, dances, costumes and performances from all over the world. The Peace Village also includes a wide assortment of international foods. Plan to participate in some way: setting up a display from your country, performing, or preparing food. The International Festival is the ISA's biggest event of the year!

And So Many More…

The members of the ISA organize many other events every semester based on the interests of the students. Some recent events have included the Holiday Party, Cooking-Round-the-World Potluck, beach bonfire party, Garage Sale, and the trip to LA to watch the game show, Hollywood Squares, being filmed. Possible events are only limited to our imagination!
