International Education Week ~ November 12- 16, 2012
International Education week occurs every November as a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment. The International Student Center in partnership with other academic and administrative units plans a number of cultural, educational, and social programs during this week.
All events are FREE and open to the public

Tuesday, November 13
Title: International Speaker Forum presents Irakli Kakabadze - "Marginal Voices of Global South"
Time: 11:30 - 1:00 P.M.
Location: International Student Center
Description:The International Speaker Forum brings people from different academic backgrounds will present to students, faculty, and staff on global issues touching upon critical matters such as health, climate, education, politics, natural disasters, and other current world affairs. This event is open and free to all SDSU students, faculty, and staff.

Description:Come learn about short-term study abroad programs led by SDSU faculty! The College of Extended Studies (CES) staff will be available to discuss the study abroad programs offered through CES and to answer any questions you may have.
Title: Irakli Kakabadze - "The Role of Tranfosmative Political Theatre in Bringing About the Rose Revolution in Georgia"

Description: Irakli Kakabadze is a Georgian writer, performance artist, and peace-human rights activist. In his youth (1987–1990), Kakabadze took part in anti-Soviet dissident movement and in the national liberation movements of Georgia, which included the revolutions of 1989 and of 2003. He was arrested and assaulted numerous times by the Soviet and Georgian police. In recent years, Kakabadze has dedicated himself to literature and arts while remaining active in peace studies and conflict resolution. He has developed a new method of integrating performing arts and social sciences, called "Rethinking Tragedy" or "Transformative Performance" and pioneered a multi-lingual and multi-narrative performing style, called "Polyphonic Discourse." In 2009, Kakabadze received the Oxfam/Novib Pen Freedom of Expression of Prize.
Wednesday, November 14
Title: International Studies Minor Presentation
Time: 11:00 - 11:30 A.M.
Location: International Student Center
Description: This is to introduce the new minor in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. Students who are interested in studying abroad can build a minor around the experience. The program is very flexible in order to fit the schedules of undergraduate students at all levels. Any study abroad programs/credits may apply to the minor.
Title: Summer Service - Learning Program in China 2013
Time: 11:30 - 12:00 P.M.
Location: International Student Center
Description:This is a long-standing, scholarship-supported program sponsored by Tsinghua University of China and various charity groups. The scholarship covered all costs associated with the program in China including in-country transportation, lodging and meals, orientation classes and opening and closing ceremonies. It’s offered through CES with 3.0 SDSU residence credits.

Title: International Peace Village

Location: North Love Library Wakway
Description: An international showcase of cultures and countries through music, art, dance, cultural performances, and displays during International Education Week in November. This event attracts thousands of participants and brings together a diverse array of culture to the SDSU campus community.

Description:All students interested in SDSU's education abroad opportunities are welcome and encouraged to attend an General Info Session.
Friday, November 16
Title: International Coffee Hour - China
Time: 12:00 -1:30 P.M.
Location: International Student Center
Description: International and domestic students share their culture with the SDSU community every Friday at the ISC. A different country or cultural theme is presented each week. Come enjoy food and friends from around the world!
Title:University Honors Program International Festival
Time: 1:30 -3:00 P.M.
Location: International Student Center
Description: The University Honors Program Student Society invites you to their annual international festival honoring students in the organization who have studied abroad. Study abroad returnees will present informatoin on their experiences abroad.
