Costs
Many factors affect the total cost of education in the United States . Some of the main issues to be considered include:
State University or Private University
Location
Student's Lifestyle
State University/Private University
The cost of attending college varies greatly between state universities and private universities. State universities are publicly funded and generally aim to keep the tuition cost as low as possible. San Diego State University is a part of the California State University System, and aims to provide excellent and affordable education which is highly valued by industries and employers.
As a non-California resident, you would be paying a registration fee and an additional non-resident tuition fee of $339 per unit. The tuition for a year is approximately $11,500 which is roughly half the tuition that an International student would pay at a private university.
SDSU is a favorite with International Students because of its excellent academics, affordability, strong International community and close ties with industries in and around San Diego .
Location of the University
San Diego , the second largest city in California , is a thriving cultural, scientific and educational center. Bordering the Pacific Rim and Mexico , San Diego offers a wide variety of social and cultural activities. Known for its near-perfect climate, miles of sandy beaches, and fun-filled waterfront activities, San Diego is also recognized globally as a thriving academic and hi-tech center. San Diego 's geographic location and diverse regional population help make the area a dynamic international hub.
California is also an expensive state. Living in states like Texas , Kansas , Iowa and others may be less expensive, but the abundant opportunities available in California make it one of the most popular destinations for International Students!
Lifestyle
There will be additional expenses that a student may incur depending on his or her lifestyle. These expenses include food, housing, transportation and others.
Housing expenses will depend on whether it is on-campus housing or off-campus housing, shared or individual housing and prices vary greatly depending on the different parts of city. Expect monthly rent to cost between $300 and $800 per month. SDSU also has an International House that houses a mix of international and domestic students. Most housing arrangements around SDSU include kitchen facilities and many students save a lot of money by cooking meals together at home.
