Opportunities To Get Involved
As an international student at San Diego State University, you will have many pportunities to take advantage of both academic and nonacademic opportunities. We hope that you will take a moment to think about how you might like to share your culture with the San Diego community.
Join the ISA
SDSU has a very active International Student Association (ISA). The mission of the ISA is to promote international understanding and cultural awareness on the SDSU campus and in the San Diego community. It also represents the interests of international students on the Associated Student Council, SDSU's student government. Finally it organizes social programs which bring together a supportive and fun network of internationally minded students and faculty from both the US and abroad. Getting involved in the ISA is a great way to enrich your experience at SDSU. By becoming actively involved in the ISA you can work closely with students from all over the world while developing skills in organizational leadership, intercultural communication, and problemsolving. There are many leadership opportunities available.
If you would like to find out more, contact the ISA at iscreception@sdsu.edu or check out the ISA website.
The Coffee Hour
This is a popular traditional gathering of students and faculty held every Friday from noon to 1:30 at the ISC. It is sponsored jointly by the ISC and ISA and highlights a different culture each week with food and entertainment.
The International Peace Village
The Peace Village is the annual fall celebration of international cultures. This is an opportunity for international students to share their traditions with the SDSU and San Diego community. The event attracts over 1,000 participants, including school children and community leaders. It features cultural displays, music, songs, dances, costumes and performances from all over the world. The Peace Village also includes a wide assortment of international foods. Plan to participate in some way: set up a display from your country, perform, or prepare food. The International Festival is the ISA's biggest event of the year! Members of the ISA organize many other events to promote internationalization every semester based on the interests of the students. These usually include a Welcome Party for new students, holiday celebrations, film festivals, International Potlucks, fundraisers, and more.
