Ron Moffatt, Director
Ron was the leader and director of the International Student Center for 24 years. Ron has been an integral part of the Center, and will continue to be, as his spirit will live on within each of us here at the ISC. A memorial service was held on May 3rd. Ron has spent more than three decades helping students cross borders to learn about the world beyond their comfort zones, and in the process, guiding them through transformative journeys that might shape a more just, pacific and sustainable global future. Ron became the Director of the International Student Center at San Diego State University in 1984 after serving as the Coordinator of International Programs at the University of Arkansas beginning in 1977. Ron has served in numerous leadership positions in his field and is the 2007 President of NAFSA: Association of International Educators,
Ron has also served in a variety of volunteer capacities that help him better understand what life looks and feels like from non-western, non-privileged perspectives: village water projects in Uganda; school construction projects in Nicaragua; refugee resettlement projects in Costa Rica; secondary school teaching in rural Kenya; educational consulting projects in India and Nepal. Most recently, he has been working with the Wang Foundation in support of their poverty alleviation and distance learning projects in rural China, and he is the co-founder of the Global Civil Society Network for International Educators
Ron earned a B.A. in English and Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1969 and a M.Ed. in Student Personnel Administration and Intercultural Communications from the University of Delaware in 1977.
