Scholarships for International Students

International students attending SDSU are not eligible for any federal or state financial aid programs. However, ISC Scholarships are sometimes available and they are described below. You should regularly check this site for ongoing updates.

Graduate students should contact their Academic Department or the Graduate Division for current Graduate Assistantship opportunities.

Most academic departments offer University Scholarships which are competitive and based on scholastic performance at SDSU. International graduates and undergraduates may apply for any University Scholarship for which they are eligible. More information and application forms for University Scholarships can be obtained through SDSU's Scholarship Office.

ISC Scholarships for Graduate Students

ISC scholarships for graduate students currently include the following:

PHI BETA DELTA HONOR SOCIETY

In its efforts to recognize outstanding scholastic achievement in the pursuit of greater international interchange, SDSU's Phi Beta Delta, Honor Society for International Scholars, is pleased to announce scholarship opportunities for full-time SDSU students for Spring 2005.

The scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students at SDSU. Undergraduate applicants must have a minimum 3.25 GPA and have completed at least 60 units, including 30 units at SDSU. Graduate applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and have completed at least 12 graduate units at SDSU.

Qualified students must demonstrate their involvement in international studies and/or programs at SDSU, and they must explain how their award would be utilized in conjunction with academic studies, research, and/or service which has an international scope or relevance.

ISC Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

The International Student Center awards a limited number of scholarships to undergraduate students in the form of tuition waivers/reductions. The following list describes current scholarship opportunities.

NEW STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS BEGINNING FALL 2006

The scholarship awards will consist of Undergraduate Tuition Waivers and each award will cover approximately 50% of the student's tuition burden for their first year at SDSU. The monetary value of each award is $4,068.

Each recipient will receive 6 units of tuition waiver their first semester, and 6 more units will be awarded for their second semester if the student earns at least a 2.5 GPA during their first semester.

Recipients will be limited to new international undergraduates who are new to SDSU. Awards are not renewable for subsequent years, but recipients will be eligible for other ISC tuition waiver programs described below.

The awards will be competitive and selection will be based on responses to three areas of inquiry: academic ability, financial need and capacity to promote international goodwill at SDSU.

INTERCULTURAL AMBASSADORS PROGRAM

This annual scholarship program, a collaborative effort of the SDSU International Student Center and the International Studies Education Project of San Diego (ISTEP), is a combined student leadership development/community outreach initiative designed to promote greater intercultural awareness and international goodwill in the San Diego public schools.

Each Spring semester, 10 to 15 SDSU international students are selected and trained to serve as intercultural resources in participating elementary schools. Ambassadors receive approximately $750 in tuition waivers in exchange for visiting classrooms and helping children gain a deeper understanding of intercultural issues and relations. In the past 15 years, 192 international students from 68 countries have visited 415 classrooms and personally enriched the lives of more than 16,000 San Diego children.

INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS PROGRAM

The InterNational Partners Program is a collaborative effort of the SDSU International Student Center and an assortment of community service organizations engaged in the promotion of international understanding and goodwill. The program is designed to provide the organizations with diverse perspectives and resources contributed by international students, and provide the students with an internship experience in community services with an international focus. Students receive a tuition waiver worth approximately $1,000 in exchange for 120 hours of service a semester.

Partners are selected each Spring Semester and perform their service each Fall Semester. For more information, visit the International Partners Website.
