    Profile: Based in Victoria, Deakin University is a diverse, multi-campus institution encompassing a network of six campuses that provide a variety of settings for productive study and a valuable exchange experience.

    • Is the joint winner of the prestigious University of the Year award for 1999/2000. The only Australian University to receive this award twice, in 1995 Deakin won for "outstanding technology in education" and in 1999, Deakin was a joint winner for "outstanding education and training partnerships".
    • Provides professionally focused courses to over 70,000 students in Australia and abroad.
    • Five diverse campuses: three in suburban Melbourne, one in semi-rural Geelong and one in rural Warrnambool.

    Divisions: Arts (Australian studies, Asian and Middle Eastern languages, communications, contemporary arts, public relations); Business and Law (Commerce, International Trade, accounting, finance, marketing, management, electronic commerce, law); Education (primary, secondary, workplace, TESOL); Health and Behavioral Sciences (disability studies, psychology, nutrition, human movement and dietetics, nursing); Science and Technology (architecture, engineering, environmental management, computing, aqua culture and fisheries management, biological and chemical sciences).

    Academic Notes : Offerings at an undergraduate and graduate levels include aquatic science, architecture, biology, chemistry, computing, disability studies, environmental management, fine art, information management, journalism, Asian and Middle Eastern languages, law, literature, management, mathematics, nutrition and psychology. Deakin emphasizes interdisciplinary studies, with courses developed by teams of academic experts. Unusual course offerings include Australian studies (including Aboriginal history and identity, Australian politics, popular culture, relations with Asia, cities and regions, urban studies, military history and environment), Police Studies, and units focusing on Australian ecology and environment. Students should select the campus they wish to study at based on availability of units.

    Exchange Dates : Mid-February to early July or mid-July to November.

    Special Conditions: Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 to apply for Exchange. Exchange students do not have access to Professional Writing units. Students applying for Media Arts units will be required to submit specified assessment tasks.

    DEAKIN - GEELONG CAMPUS

    Location: Geelong

    Profile: The Geelong campus is located at Waurn Ponds 15 kilometers west of the center of Geelong. The campus was established in 1977 and is now home to 12,700 students, with more than 5,000 of those studying on campus. Students have access to academic, administrative and support services, a 24-hour computer laboratory, a recreation center, sports fields and facilities, a nature reserve and student residence complex.

    Locale: Geelong, Victoria's second largest city, is situated 45 miles southwest of Melbourne and is linked to the state's capital by a frequent one-hour train service and freeway network. Set against the backdrop of Corio Bay, Geelong is almost surrounded by water and has close proximity to rugged surf coaches and the Great Ocean Road that attracts visitors from around the world. First settled in the early 1820's, Geelong rapidly emerged as a busy port town, today it is a car-making center, home to one of the largest oil refineries in the Southern Hemisphere and the site of a large aluminum smelter and rolling mill. Regular bus services operate to and from the campus and city of Geelong.

    Academic Notes : This campus offers biological sciences, chemical sciences, commerce, computing, education, humanities, law, nursing, social sciences and engineering.

    Room and Board: Student residences at Geelong provide on-campus accommodation in three colleges for 446 students, in a co-educational and multi cultural environment. Students will usually be housed in on-campus, single-occupancy rooms with communal kitchens, bathrooms and recreation facilities. A five-day meal dinner plan is provided; a stipend will be provided to cover other meals.

    DEAKIN - GEELONG WATERFRONT CAMPUS

    Profile: The Geelong Waterfront campus is Deakin University's newest campus and is located on the foreshore of Corio Bay, in the center of Geelong. Originally built in 1893, the buildings have undergone extensive renovations to create an impressive, modern campus. The Waterfront campus houses the Great Hall, which is a major University and community facility with seating for 1,500 people. The School of Nursing and The School of Architecture and Building are located on this campus.

    Locale: Geelong, Victoria's second largest city, is situated 45 miles southwest of Melbourne and is linked to the state's capital by a frequent, one-hour train service and freeway network. Regular bus services operate to and from the campus and the areas surrounding Geelong. The campus is a short walk from the main railway station.

    Academic Notes: This is a specialist campus offering studies in architecture and building, and nursing.

    Housing: On-campus residential accommodation is not available at the Geelong Waterfront Campus but the on-campus accommodation at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is open to students taking courses at the Waterfront.

    DEAKIN - MELBOURNE CAMPUS

    Profile: The Melbourne campus, well regarded for the architectural style of its newest buildings, is Deakin's largest campus. A recent redevelopment program has added significant new educational facilities to this major campus. In addition to the multilevel library and active student union, there are several shops, student services and a large cafeteria and bistro area. Other campus facilities include 24-hour computer laboratories, tennis courts, tracks, gymnasium, and laboratories for bio mechanics, weight training and exercise studios. There is also a 400-seat theatre for productions.

    Locale: Burwood is a residential suburb of Melbourne. The Burwood Campus is located 35 minutes from the center of Melbourne and is served by excellent public transport. The campus is located alongside Gardiner's Creek parklands in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, close to walking and bike tracks and shopping centers.

    Academic Notes: Programs include business, nursing, teacher education, disability studies, nutrition and dietetics, law, health and consumer studies, humanities and languages.

    Housing: Student residences at the Melbourne campus provide single room accommodation for 200 students in a co-educational and multi cultural environment Overlooking Gardiner's Creek and parklands next to the campus.

    DEAKIN - WARRNAMBOOL CAMPUS

    Location: Warrnambool Campus

    Profile: The campus is located amongst rich farming land and some of Australia's most spectacular and picturesque coastline. Students benefit from the excellent computing and resource facilities and are able to take advantage of wonderful recreational facilities including a 9-hole golf course. There are more than 3,800 students studying through the Warrnambool campus, with around 1,400 people studying on-campus. This modern campus is set on the banks of the Hopkins River and creates an environment for students that is friendly and informal. In the tradition of universities throughout the world, Deakin students and staff influence and contribute to the life of the local community.

    Locale: Warrnambool is one of Victoria's largest regional cities and is just three hours by rail from Melbourne. With a population of 28,000, local residents enjoy fishing, miles and miles of deserted surf beaches and the opportunity to see Southern Right Whales at home in the Southern Ocean.

    Academic Profile: Amongst the academic programs offered at this campus are aquatic science, business and computing, humanities, nursing, eco-communication, public relations, social sciences and visual arts.

    Housing: The residences provide a modern and refurbished accommodation for 242 students. Accommodation includes a single room with shared facilities and two meals per week.

    Profile: With a student population of 15,000, Murdoch is small enough to support excellent staff student relations, yet is large enough to provide state-of-the-art facilities, excellent student services and a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. International students need to know that at Murdoch University, we work at incorporating their 'life experience' from their own culture into their new living and study environment. Choices about where to live, the friends to be made, and courses of study, are just as important to Murdoch University as they are to you. Murdoch will enable you to maximize your university education and can offer opportunities that will make your study experience in Australia a truly memorable and worthwhile event.

    Locale: Bordered largely by desert to the east, Western Australia is bound by 12,500 kilometers (7,813 miles) of the world's most pristine coastline to the west. Western Australia is adored for its brilliant blue skies, warm sunny climate and white sandy beaches. It is a land blessed with some of the world's most precious natural phenomena including the dolphins of Monkey Mia, the 350-million-year-old Bungle Bungle range and the towering karri forests of the South West. Perth, the capital city of the State, is home to 1.38 million people and enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other capital city in Australia. Sophisticated yet uncomplicated, the lifestyle in Western Australia is a relaxed one.

    Perth has an excellent public transport system. Buses run regularly between Perth and Murdoch University and, Fremantle and Murdoch University and can be caught from the Fremantle and Perth city center to many parts of Perth. The Circle Route bus passes Murdoch University and goes via many areas of Perth, it is very convenient for and, is widely used by Murdoch students. In addition, students who have classes at the Rockingham Campus and live in the Murdoch area are able to catch the regular shuttle buses between the Murdoch and Rockingham Campuses. Students will be provided with transport information at the Orientation Program. The University is located approximately 20 minutes by car (15 kilometers) from Perth's city center and 10 minutes by car (eight kilometers) from the port city of Fremantle.

    Should you wish to explore other Australian cities, Perth is less than four hours by plane from Sydney and Melbourne. As closest Australian city to South-East Asia, Perth is also a great starting point for exploring Australia's Asian neighbors. It is only a 3 hour flight to Bali and 5 - 7 hours flying time to major Asian destinations including Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

    Academic Notes: Students must study a full-time load of twelve credit points; usually four subjects.     Profile: The University of Canberra (UC) is a highly regarded regional university located in Australia 's capital city. With a current enrollment of approximately 10,000, UC is a vibrant campus, home to a close-knit community of local, interstate and international students.

    Lectures are held in purpose-designed, modern lecture theatres fully equipped with multi-media facilities. For each lecture, students attend a tutorial (small, interactive study group supervised by a tutor) where they discuss the lecture and receive personal assistance from teaching staff.

    Student welfare is a priority at UC, with facilities in place to assist students both academically and personally. The Students' Association also provides a wide range of social activities, clubs and societies to help students' involvement in campus life. Study abroad students have a dedicated student advisor in the International Office.

    Locale: The university campus is a quick walk to bars, restaurants, fresh food markets, supermarkets, movie theaters and a major shopping mall, and is only a short bus ride from Canberra 's city center. The city's lively nightlife of pubs, clubs and live music rubs shoulders with national and local arts, culture and politics, and the city comes to life each year during its numerous festivals. Some of Australia 's most important political and historical buildings and tourist attractions are located in Canberra . Bush land reserves, lakeshore and cycling/jogging trails are just moments away from the university for those craving the great outdoors.

    Profile: UTS was formed at the beginning of 1988 from the former NSW Institute of Technology, and was restructured in 1990 with the merger of the 'Old UTS' with the Kuring-gai College of Advanced Education, the School of Design , and the Institute of Technical and Adult Teacher Education, forming the current UTS. Now, the University of Technology Sydney is well known as a leading provider of professional career-focused education. All programs are relevant and progressive, leading to internationally recognized degrees. Industry professionals help develop and review UTS courses to provide a balance between theory and practical application. This difference distinguishes UTS from other universities. UTS offers a diverse range of flexible and innovative courses. UTS has a multicultural student mix of more than 27000 students. Our international student population is made up of over 3,000 international students from over 70 countries.

    Locale: UTS has 3 campuses . The main UTS campus is located in the centre of the city of Sydney , adjacent to Central Railway Station and Chinatown . It is within walking distance or an easy bus ride away from most of Sydney 's main attractions including the Sydney Opera House and the harbour. Most UTS programs are offered at the city campus and students are ideally placed to take advantage of being in the centre of a cosmopolitan and dynamic city. Some UTS teaching also takes place at the Kuring-Gai Campus in Lindfield. This is focused around the School of Leisure Sport and Tourism and the Faculty of Education. The St Leonards Campus hosts biological sciences.

The cities of Cairns and Townsville, where JCU's main campuses are located, also boast modern civic facilities and multicultural populations not usually found outside of capital cities. Established Indigenous, European and Asian communities add to the cultural diversity of the region. Of course, the Barrier Reef Islands, Ancient Growth Rainforests and tropical beaches are all there to explore. The outback is just as accessible and provides opportunities to experience the Australia of legend.

    Townsville Campus
    On-campus accommodation is available at the Townsville campus for around 1,400 students. There are 8 University colleges or halls of residence available for students to choose from.
    John Flynn College - provides catered accommodation for male and female students on campus, and self-catering accommodation for 20 students; also wheelchair accessible
    St Mark’s College - catered accommodation for male and female students
    St Paul’s College - catered single study/bedroom accommodation for male and female students in separate wings
    St Raphael’s College - catered accommodation for female students only in single study/bedrooms
    University Hall – combination of catered and self-catered facilities for male and female students
    Western Hall– catered accommodation facilities for male and female students
    George Roberts Hall – motel style accommodation consisting of three or four bedrooms located around a lounge and kitchenette with shared bathroom
    Rotary International House – self-catered residence for male and female


    Cairns Campus
    Cairns Student Lodge – Situated 400 metres (approximately 1300 feet) from the JCU Cairns campus, provides fully catered accommodation. Facilities include Internet access, a swimming pool, barbecue area, volleyball courts, dining room, conference facilities, and an on-site manager. Cairns Student Lodge is linked to the JCU campus by a pedestrian walkway/bicycle path.
    JCU Oyster Court Apartments - offering self-catering student apartments at nearby Trinity Beach. Each apartment includes four bedrooms, a living area, kitchen and bathroom. Trinity Beach is on the main bus route to the campus and the city, a ten-minute walk to the beach and a five-minute bus ride from JCU.
