    Universidad de Valparaíso was part of the Universidad de Chile, a university created in 1842. As a result of changes in the law in 1981 regarding the creation of autonomous universities in Chile, The Universidad de Valparaíso was founded as a sole entity in 1981. Today, Universidad de Valparaíso boasts with 4,453 students and 752 faculty members. Universidad de Chile is considered the Alma Mater of Universidad de Valparaíso.

    The university does not have a main campus. The campus and the colleges are in different buildings dispersed throughout the city of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. The College of Business Administration is in beautiful Viña del Mar.

    Viña del Mar is one of the most famous seaside resorts in South America. It is near Valparaíso and within close proximity of many interesting places such as El Recreo, a popular bathing resort and Caleta, a city with a lot of beaches. There you can find theaters, cultural centers, museums, sporting clubs, and places to hike.

    HOUSING

    Finding your own accommodations: Apartments and homes are available for rent. Prices range from $250 to $450 per month.

    Family housing: Students may live with a Chilean family. This type of arrangement can include a meal plan. Prices range from $200 to $400 per month.

    Universidad de Valparaíso is organized in two semester. For more information:

    Spring semester: Mid March - Late June
    Fall semester: Early August - Late December
