    Profile: Founded in 1963 as a university based on Chinese language and culture, CUHK has developed into a multilingual, international comprehensive institution. The Chinese University of Hong Kong is one of eight government-funded institutions of higher education but the university functions as a self-governing institution and receives its finances from government grants, student tuition fees and private donations.

    Competitive admission to CUHK is based on passing the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination after seven years of secondary education. Both English and Chinese examinations must be passed. University programs lead to Bachelor's, Master's, doctoral degrees and postgraduate diplomas. Students who satisfy graduation requirements shall be awarded bachelor's degree with one of the classifications: first-, second upper-, second lower-, third- class honors, or pass degree, depending on examination results.

    More than 300 courses a year in a variety of subjects are taught in English. Most students are local and trilingual (English, Cantonese and Putonghua); foreign students number about 150. Total enrollment: over 12,000.

    Coursework includes lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory work, fieldwork, examinations and research projects. The grading scale runs from A (excellent) to F (failure). The academic year is divided into two terms: September to December and January to May, with examinations scheduled in December and early May.

    Locale: Hong Kong was British-governed for over 156 years until it returned to Chinese rule on July 1, 1997. Hong Kong is one of the world's major ports, an international trade and finance center that draws tourists and business travelers from all over the world. Hong Kong Island (32 sq. mi.), Kowloon Peninsula (3 sq. mi.) and New Territories (356 sq. mi.) have a population of 6.9 million. Hong Kong has train, plane and/or ferry service to Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and other major cities in China. The campus is located in the New Territories, 20 minutes by train/car from the bustle of urban Hong Kong. Set on a green hillside overlooking Tolo Harbor, it is 13 miles from downtown Kowloon and is connected to the city by highly efficient public transportation.

    Divisions: Faculties of Arts (Chinese language and literature, English, English language, fine arts, intercultural studies, history, Japanese studies, modern languages, music, philosophy, religious studies, theology, and translation); Business Administration (accountancy, decision sciences and managerial economics, finance, hotel management, international business, management, and marketing); Engineering (computer science, computer engineering, electronic engineering, information engineering, mechanical & automation engineering, and systems engineering & engineering management); Science (biochemistry, biology, chemistry, environmental science, food & nutritional sciences, mathematics, physics, and statistics); Social Science (anthropology, architecture, economics, gender studies, geography, government & public administration, journalism & communication, psychology, social work, and sociology).

    Academic notes: Courses offered in English vary from year to year. There are course offerings in contemporary China studies and Hong Kong studies which are recommended.  CUHK welcomes many foreign students each year to its International Asian Studies Program and Chinese Language Center, which offer English-taught Asian studies and Chinese language courses respectively. Extra-curricular activities including teaching-in-china programs are organized for international students.

    Language notes: Knowledge of Chinese is an advantage but not a requirement.

    Room and board: Exchange students are responsible for finding their own accommodation, but assistance will be provided from the host institution.

    Special conditions: Students interested in studying at CUHK should be advised that a preliminary list of English-taught courses for the following academic year will be available in mid-June on the CUHK Web site ( http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/oisp ). Courses offered by the Faculties of Medicine and Education are not available to international students

    Course Description

    Profile: City University of Hong Kong is committed to providing quality higher education to its students. The educational philosophy of the University emphasizes whole person development so that students will receive ample opportunities to nurture both the “breadth” (analytical and problem-solving skills, knowledge of the world) and “depth” (subject knowledge and professional skills) of their minds. The University has a strong team of experienced academic staff with diverse research interests and professional expertise. Supported by top quality teaching and research facilities, City University provides students with an excellent environment for learning and research. The physical environment, infrastructure and teaching facilities have been adapted from time to time to create an ambiance that encourages intellectual curiosity, social interaction, self-expression and mutual support.

    We offer over 80 Bachelor's and Associate degree programs each year. The University offers over 50 taught postgraduate programs, including Postgraduate Certificate / Diploma, Taught Master's Degrees and Professional Doctorate Degrees.

    Locale: Hong Kong is one of the safest cities in the world even at night, when people may walk alone with confidence. Public transportation via bus, ferry or train is efficient, relatively inexpensive and user-friendly. The system covers extension areas of Hong Kong with signs in English and Chinese.

    Hong Kong enjoys a mild climate from the middle of September to the end of February, while the weather from May to mid-September is rather warm and humid. Eighty per cent of Hong Kong's precipitation occurs between May and September, with August registering the highest rainfall.

    Academic Notes: The agreement between SDSU and City University, Hong Kong only allows students to study with in the Department of Applied Social Studies.

    Language Notes: Unless other wise noted the medium of instruction and assessment at the University is English.

    Room and Board: Exchange students are responsible for finding their own accommodation, but assistance will be provided from the host institution.

    Profile: China Academy of Art provides international students with the courses of oil painting, print-making, sculpture, art history and design art. Its principal aim is to popularize the splendid Chinese cultures, to promote international artistic exchanges and our friendship with all the people in the world. Since 1980, more than 1000 international students have been studied in the college. It has at present nearly 130 students.
     
    Locale: Hangzhou is famous for its scenic beauty. As a modern city, it is equipped with advanced public facilities, including convenient bus, train and airline systems, modern shopping centers and excellent medical services.  China Academy of Art is located near both the scenic areas and downtown, and only 50 meters to the beautiful West Lake. With the wonderful environment and all kinds of facilities for daily life, it has been regarded as the best district in Hangzhou. Post offices, banks, shopping malls, supermarkets and hospitals are all within walking distance.
     
    Language Notes: SDSU students needn't take an entrance examination.  All courses are taught in Chinese only. 
     
    Room and Board: Housing options available include single and double room dormitories.  All options include: public bathroom and access to washing machines.  For rates, please refer to the International Website.

    Profile: Southwest University (SWU) is a comprehensive and national key university sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China. SWU was founded in July, 2005, and currently has more than 80 000 students, among them 50 000 are full-time. There are many international students working for their bachelors, masters, doctors degrees and advanced studies at SWU every year.
     
    Locale: SWU is located in Chongqing municipality, which is the central city in the Western China Development Project. The Three Gorges, Dazu Stones Carving and Hotpot Food are worldwide famous and unique.

    Divisions: SWU covers a very broad range of studies including philosophy, economics, law, pedagogics, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, and management. The university now offers 40 national key disciplines, 66 doctoral programs, 9 postdoctoral programs, 159 master's programs and 97 bachelor's programs. Short term language programs or study tours concerning Chinese culture and scenery, martial arts, and business in China , etc.
     
    Academic Notes: The International students have the following options of study At SWU: Undergraduate or graduate degree-granting programs: Undergraduate, Master's Degree and Ph. D. Degree. Visiting students programs (non-degree granting): General visiting students, Senior visiting students. Short term language programs or study tours concerning Chinese culture and scenery, martial arts, and business in China , etc. Most of the international students in SWU are now majoring in Chinese language, Pedagogy, Psychology, Economics, Business in China, Chinese Minorities Studies, Life Sciences, Food Sciences, Agriculture, Fine Arts, and Chinese Martial Arts, etc.

    Language Notes: SWU has teaching faculty with profound knowledge and rich experiences in the training of the Chinese Language. We offer effective training programs all year round for those who wish to improve their Chinese Language proficiency for career or business purposes, or those who need the training of Chinese for further college studies in China .  
     
    Room and Board: All the international students may be accommodated at the International Students' Dormitory. Each room or flat of the International Students' Dormitory is furnished with a TV set, a telephone, a bathroom (shower or bath), an air-conditioner, and access to the Internet. There are also public kitchens, laundries, reading rooms, a gym, and a recreation room for activities and parties. On the campus there are banks where traveler's checks can be cashed and credit cards such as VISA, MASTER, JCB can be used. The post-office in the shopping center on campus can handle international postal service. Students may cook in public kitchens in the international students' dormitory, or dine in the international student canteen and other canteens on campus. The daily meal cost is usually 20-45 Yuan per person. For cost of living enquiries, please contact the international website. Students can also choose to live in other places on or outside the campus, but must apply to the International Students' Office and register at the local Police Station. The cost is to be negotiated by the students with the landlords or landladies.
